Today was my final morning at my Cairnyard Holiday Lodge, so there wasn't much opportunity to explore today: the dogs had a run in The Hills before we set off, but I had to be back in time to get sorted and go to staff training, so it wouldn't have been enjoyable to go see somewhere new with a deadline hanging over my head.

It's been an amazing experience going on holiday by myself for the first time. The city car held up well, despite me, once again, driving her over terrain that she's really not designed for. The lodge itself, no. 5 Lapwing of Cairnyard Holiday Lodges, immediately felt like home -- except for Mouse barking at the porch in the pitch black and the occasional, perturbing, smell of men's deodorant. The TV was large and (with the excellent free WiFi) it was good for streaming through a Fire Stick, but most videos saved to the hard drive were incompatible and wouldn't play. I got used to the heating, but didn't really gel with the gas shower. The bed was perfect, and draped with the comfiest throw ever. I'd already confirmed with the owner that the suite was leather, which had been the only thing putting me off hiring the place when I saw it on cottages.com. But when I got there I arranged a comfy red throw and the duvet from one of the spare beds to cover it, so I never actually had to touch it. The house felt like a cosy flat, not too intimidating for one but with space for more. I'd recommend it to anyone, and would probably book again if I were visiting the area.
